Use different kinds of sources
Separate national context, Bratislava updates and rules affecting you personally. News articles explain context, but confirm application deadlines with the authority and route changes with the operator. Do not make one outlet your sole “objective” source: compare facts, primary documents and publication genres.
Denník N, Aktuality.sk and SME
Denník N publishes Slovak news, reporting, interviews, investigations, commentary and podcasts. Short live updates and detailed reporting serve different purposes. Much full-length content requires a subscription; check included apps and sections before paying. One product’s access does not necessarily unlock the publisher’s entire range.
Aktuality.sk covers Slovakia, world news, investigations and features, with both free and subscription content. SME offers national reporting, analysis and regional coverage. Use its Bratislava coverage for city life and check update dates: old roadworks stories may remain prominent in search after work finishes.
STVR, TASR and Zoznam
The public broadcaster’s news site is now Správy STVR; archived material may still use RTVS branding. TASR and its public Teraz.sk portal provide short news reports. Agency coverage often establishes what happened; follow its links to the organisation or document for operational details.
Zoznam.sk is a portal and service directory, not a single newsroom behind all linked material. Topky.sk is a distinct news product: check the actual publisher, author and primary source. Advertising, partner articles and opinion pieces are different genres from straight news.
Reading in English, Russian or Ukrainian
The Slovak Spectator provides English-language Slovak news and practical living coverage. Some content is paid, with access depending on subscription. Machine translation helps with Slovak reporting, but check residence-status terms, negations and commencement dates against the original.
Afisha’s News section offers short editorial summaries in RU/UA/EN with source links. Use them as a starting point, then consult full reporting, official documents or individual advice as needed. For events, check the individual listing and its verification time.
Official city information and a checking routine
Use bratislava.sk and your borough website for city decisions and restrictions, DPB and IDS BK for transport, PAAS for parking, and SHMÚ for weather alerts. An authority’s announcement gives its rules or position, not an independent assessment. Bookmark direct sources instead of relying on reposts.
Before sharing, check event and publication dates, geographic scope, authorship and updates. Government approval of a proposal does not mean the law is already in force, and nationwide news may not apply to a particular street. One general outlet, one alternative and relevant official notices can make a manageable reading routine. Respect subscriptions and copyright: share a link and your own brief summary.
