Bratislava and Košice airports are the main choices for trips to Slovakia. Before buying a ticket, check both the city and the actual airport schedule: seasonal routes and departure times may change.

Bratislava (BTS)

M. R. Štefánik Airport is around 9 km from central Bratislava. Its official website lists current destinations, airlines, a terminal map, parking information and transport options.

The 2026 schedule includes regular and seasonal routes operated by airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, Smartwings, Pegasus, Air Cairo, Air Montenegro and SunExpress. Confirm your specific route with the airline and airport shortly before travelling.

Košice (KSC)

Košice Airport is useful for eastern Slovakia and the Tatras. Its official website publishes destinations, departure schedules and passenger rules. Check your transfer to the railway station or destination city in advance.

Other airports

Poprad–Tatry, Žilina, Piešťany and Sliač have more limited or seasonal schedules. They may suit a particular resort, but check that your flight operates on your travel dates before booking.

Pre-flight checklist

  1. Confirm the airport, date and terminal in your booking.
  2. Check cabin baggage allowances and online check-in with your airline.
  3. Allow extra time for transfers, security and possible traffic delays.
  4. Check your flight status on the airport website on the day of travel.

Choosing the airport that suits your trip

Compare the total cost: airfare, baggage, airport travel, parking or transfers and any overnight stay. A cheap early flight may cost more than a daytime departure if public transport does not fit. For Bratislava, compare BTS with Vienna Airport (VIE), although the latter is in Austria. For eastern Slovakia, start with Košice; for the Tatras, also check Poprad.

From BTS to the city without a car

Route 61 connects Bratislava Airport with the main railway station, Hlavná stanica; N61 operates at night. This does not mean direct access to every part of the Old Town: your hotel may require a transfer or walk. Check your destination stop and current timetable, and choose a ticket covering the whole journey, including transfers.

Connections and separate tickets

If you buy two flights separately, allow time for baggage collection, another check-in and security. Check responsibility for a missed connection: separate bookings often lack the protection of a single itinerary. When travelling via Vienna, include the cross-border ground transfer and check your documents; living in Slovakia does not replace the required travel document.

Travelling with children or bulky baggage

Check your airline’s rules for pushchairs, child seats and sports equipment before leaving. Arrange a suitable child seat for your transfer in advance. Save your boarding pass and accommodation address offline, and check the baggage-drop deadline separately: departure time is not the final check-in time.
