Finančná správa announced on 29 October 2026 that an EU handling fee will apply from 1 November to distance-sales imports from outside the European Union. The announced charge is €2 for each item in a customs declaration, irrespective of the goods’ value. It should not be read as a single €2 charge for every parcel.

The authority says customs will collect the fee when processing declarations for release into free circulation. Its stated purpose is to cover supervision, risk analysis, checks and declaration processing. Finančná správa describes it as part of EU customs reform rather than a separate Slovak national measure.

The announcement also warns about charges that overseas marketplaces label as customs duty or customs fees. Paying a seller does not by itself establish that customs has been paid. If an intermediary fails to transfer the money to the competent authorities, the customer may have to pay again. Buyers should therefore check what each charge covers and who receives it.
