Universities must re-register rectors with Sociálna poisťovňa

Since 1 September 2026, a Slovak university rector holds a public office rather than working under an employment relationship. For rectors appointed under the earlier rules by 31 August, the employment relationship ended on 31 August, while the mandate and remuneration remained unchanged.

The university must deregister the rector in RLFO as an employee under an employment contract as of 31 August and register the person from 1 September as a type-1 employee with regular income under another legal relationship.

Accident-insurance and solidarity-reserve contributions apply. Guarantee insurance and the contribution financing support do not. Special regimes may override these rules at certain state universities, including those involving professional soldiers or police officers.
