Slovakia is advancing a plan for a 1,100 MWe unit at the Jaslovské Bohunice site, which the government wants to keep under full state ownership. The proposal is tied to cooperation with US partners.
JESS and Westinghouse have signed a preliminary engineering-services and FEED-study agreement. It will assess the site, permitting and technical requirements, and the feasibility of an AP1000 reactor, providing evidence for decisions on later phases.
The agreement is not construction approval. It follows the Slovak-US intergovernmental agreement on peaceful nuclear cooperation signed in January 2026. The prime minister described a political aim to make the process irreversible after the 2027 election, but the current step remains preliminary engineering.
