Who this address guide covers

This guide covers third-country nationals with residence under Act 404/2011. EU citizens, their family members and temporary-protection holders have separate rules; do not automatically apply ordinary residence deadlines or services to them.

Deadline for reporting a move

Report a change of residence to the Foreign Police within five working days under Section 111(3). If printed card details become incorrect, Section 111(1)(q) requires a new-card request within five working days. Notification and card issuance are related but separate actions.

Start as soon as the address changes and keep proof of submission. A future appointment booking does not prove timely notification. If no suitable appointment is available, contact the competent department about the permitted submission method for your particular action.

Evidence of accommodation

Section 122 allows several forms of evidence: a lease with the owner or authorised user, accommodation-provider confirmation, a host declaration with evidence of authority where the host is not the owner, or the designated electronic consent. Use evidence matching the actual arrangement.

Where a previously submitted lease remains valid for at least six months, the law also provides for a corresponding landlord declaration. Some contracts and declarations need officially authenticated signatures under Section 126. This is not a universal requirement to provide a notary, title extract and additional consents together.

Filing and the replacement-card fee

Prepare your passport, current card, new accommodation evidence and notification details. Check the competent department and service for the new residence under the current Interior Ministry procedure. The Bratislava department has been at Račianska 62 since 18 May 2026.

A standard new card with delivery within Slovakia costs €10 and takes up to 30 days; expedited issuance within two working days costs €39. An address change does not renew the permit. Update contact details separately with your insurer, employer, bank and other relevant organisations.
